Dan did a science fair project for school, and we went to look at it during his school’s open house yesterday. The project combined learning with something he already likes doing….playing with hot wheels. He rolled a hot wheels car down a track several times. Each time the track was coated with something else. He wrapped the track in aluminum foil, sprayed it with water, covered it with sand paper and hand soap and hair spray. To get the project done took a long time because he was sooooo slow in writing it up. But it was a good job and everyone seems to like it.
P.S. The fastest car was the one that went on the hairspray covered track and the slowest was with the hand soap.
Today we went to the Maker Faire in San Mateo. If you don’t know, it’s a exhibition put on by the people who make Make magazine. There are lots of geeky and artsy stuff. Some of it was kind of loud and there was a lot of walking, so Elizabeth got tired quickly. We didn’t stay long but got to see almost everything. There were working R2D2’s, artsy cars, robotic dragons, crazy mettally things, and lots of crafts. There was even a Lego exhibit that Dan liked a lot. After we left we went for lunch at the Fish Market.
This morning Daniel woke up and got breakfast ready for Sandy. There were flowers and cards and presents. Elizabeth had fun wrapping herself up in the wrapping paper. Then Sandy turned on Formula One racing for Joe to watch before he went off to work. Sandy and the kids ended up having movie day. Later it’s the finale of the Amazing Race. I think it was a good Mothers Day here. Hope everyone else had a wonderful one too!
Today was Boy’s Day. I got two Lego gifts for Boy’s Day. One is a Lego Minifigure Ultimate Sticker Collection book from Mom and Dad, and the other is a Lego Typhoon Turbo Sub from Elizabeth. It took me about an hour to build. It includes a mini diver and a shark man. I also got to pick out where we ate, Sweet Tomatoes or what I call the “push your tray place.” I liked the food and got ice cream at the end. Here are some pictures.
I went on the school bus. I liked the bus ride, and when I got to the zoo I was really excited. We saw some meerkats, a turtle eating salad, a newborn eland being chased by a curious giraffe. Dad came with me. I saw some some camels, and I went to the reptile house. My favorite thing I saw was the elephants with the turkeys (wild turkeys had invaded the elephant enclosure). I had lots of fun, and when I was on the bus home I liked looking out the window. I liked hanging out with my friends at the zoo.
Well when I took down joesandanliz.com a few months back, I thought I had it all backed up, and maybe I have….somewhere. But I have found a bunch of old picture pages, and I will post them with the appropriate date tags as I come across them with a minimum of a writeup. As this is part scrap book, part photo album, part journal, and part chronicle, it would not be very genuine if I were to make up what I thought I may have written at the time. But the pictures will always be genuine and I want them to still be available. And who knows, down the way, I may find the blog entries on a disk somewhere, and if so, I will include them too.
p.s. If you look closely at the word cloud below you can see I did it well after 5/4/10 since it is supposed to reflect words used in joesandanliz.com and includes “kitchen” and “cabinets”
Jeanine just hooked me on Words with Friends on my I phone. It’s a very addicting scrabble-like game with no time limits. If anyone wants to play my screen name is JDVough. If you need to download the app, here it is:
After I read this gigantic Upton Sinclair series of eleven books, I thought I would be able to sell them for a lot of money. They were old. They were hard to find. And I paid between five and 20 dollars for each of them. But now with just hours left on the ebay auction, all 11 books are going for just a little more than $20, much less than I dreamed. I suppose I should look at it this way…. I got to read them all and liked them and learned a lot from them. Sitting in a box in the garage they were getting me a total of $0. Now they won’t take up any more space and I do get something back.
